March 21
It's our last day in Nepal and we're sitting on the rooftop terrace of our hotel. Resting, because we have had some great exercise this morning. It's the day of Holi, a Hindu festival. People throw with little bags filled with (coloured) water and put coloured powder on everyone's face. Most shops are closed and you either have to join the game, or stay in your hotel. You can probably guess what we did....
It turned out that foreigners get special attention in the water throwing, specifically women. It was a lot of fun and we were completely wet and coloured. People on balconies and rooftops have the best positions with limitless amounts of water and the advantage of gravity. It took about half an hour before we got clean again but it was great fun.
Yesterday we went to a famous Hindu place called Pashupatinath. This is the place were Hindu people get cremated in open air and their ashes are thrown into the river. You might have heard of such a place called Varanassi in India, they say it's comparable. It may sound scary but in fact it wasn't. Ofcourse we realised that people are sad and want to say farewell to their loved ones. Therefore we took a distance, but it was very well accepted to take some pictures.
We're off to Japan tonight, so more news from there.
